So last weekend my sister got married outside Knoxville, TN. (Yay!) Wedding was gorgeous, weather was gorgeous, etc. It was great to see our cousins and my parents. We had a great time. This has nothing to do with the bad luck... but it did start right before the reception when Audrey took a tumble out of her stroller (long story) and we had to take her to the University of Tennessee Medical Center as a precaution. She was totally fine, just shaken up a bit. The good part of this story was that a pediatric surgeon from Wisconsin was with us when it happened and therefore checked her out on the spot. Needless to say, we pretty much missed the entire reception as a result, but we hear Ava had a fabulous time dancing with her cousin Alyssa on the dancefloor most of the night :)
Jim feeding Audrey at the ER while we waited for the doc.
So we came home Sunday, got settled back in, etc. My next round of bad luck happened Wednesday (ok, it's really stupidity but whatever) when I decided to take Bogey for a run while I rollerbladed. I decided a month ago it would be a lot more efficient to work out the dogs on rollerblades rather than at my 9 minute mile jogging pace. So, I bought myself some spiffy new blades that are super fast. I've been taking them for about 3 weeks now with no problems. Jim always warned me to wear the knee and elbow pads because he knows I can't stop, but I didn't listen. On Wednesday, I didn't even make it to the end of the street and I bit it.... HARD. I won't post pictures (you can thank me later) but I basically skinned up my right knee pretty good and received some really nice roadburn clear from my wrist to my elbow on the right arm. Fun times. It hurt so bad I immediately popped a 800mg Ibuprofin leftover from childbirth and had a nice big glass of wine. Today is Monday, and I'm entering the itching phase....
Last but not least, this of course was Memorial Day weekend. We had a great time just hanging out as a family, really we did, but it rained the entire weekend (minus about two hours at Ava's friend's birthday party - see pic).
Jim had the itch all weekend to go hike up Crowders Mountain because we haven't done it in almost a year. Today we said "let's go for it!" We hiked all the way to the top, but on the way down it started to POUR. It didn't stop, so we just had to bite the bullet and hike in the rain. It was comical: two dogs, a toddler, a baby, and us walking through the mud and puddles together. Of course, the girls were in their carriers, so they only got soaked (not muddy.) Audrey smiled the whole time and just looked up at the sky. Ava wasn't so enthusiastic about it. As soon as we made it to our car, the clouds parted and the sun came out. Go figure. We'll never forget today's hike. I would post a picture of we six drowned rats, but I brought a camera with no memory card in it.
